Knaresborough Town returned to league action on Saturday with a 3-0 success at Eccleshill United.
Eccleshill took advantage of the wind at their backs in the first half but found the Knaresborough defence resolute and determined.
Andrew Cooper hit wide for the home side early on before Adam Baker broke through on to Brad Walker’s pass only to fire over the top.
Jack Rushworth then saved from Aran Basi’s header before Jake Thompson was over for the home side.
Rob Youhill cut inside for Knaresborough only to see his shot saved by Jack Bentley and when Eccleshill turned to the offensive, Cooper shot wide before forcing a further save from Rushworth.
The first half looked to be ending goalless when Knaresborough won a late corner on the right in the first minute of added time. Rob Youhill’s first kick was cleared to Gregg Anderson who played it back to Youhill whose low centre was turned home by Sam Cook.
Ben Grach-Brooksbank turned well just after the break but put his effort wide and in the 52nd minute, Knaresborough scored the crucial second goal. Dan Thirkell won the ball and played Youhill down the right and his cross was converted by Walker.
Rushworth saved a weak header from Chris Lever and Khurram Shazad shot over for Eccleshill and Thirkell had a free kick saved in between, before Knaresborough wrapped up the points in the 87th minute when Baker latched on to a long clearance, played in Luke Stewart down the left side of the penalty area and his pass set up Youhill for an easy finish for his first goal of the season.
