Knaresborough Town concluded their season with a single goal victory at Liversedge, but could and should have made the result far more comfortable if their finishing had been a little more decisive.
Liversedge gave Knaresborough an early jolt as a chance went begging, but Knaresborough went ahead in their first attack when Steve Bromley laid the ball back to Conor Donoghue who fired in a low shot for his first goal since October 1st 2016 in the 4th minute.
Three minutes later, Bromley broke free, but pulled his shot wide of goal and then Brad Walker who set up Bromley, took the striker’s return pass, only to fire wide himself.
Sam Lee saved well from Alfie Raw and then saw Daniel Farrar’s effort fly too high following Raw’s centre.
A further Walker shot late in the half was blocked wide by a defender’s lunge, but Knaresborough were full value for their lead.
Liversedge hit back against the wind after the break and Farrar again shot over and Rhys Davies wide before Ben Cohen briefly responded for Knaresborough with a shot which Edward Wilzinski saved.
A firm shot from Rob Worrall was saved as was a weak header from Will Lenehan as Knaresborough pressed for a second, but the goal was not to be and it was left to Farrar to again hit wide for Liversedge as a typical end of season encounter came to an end.
On Saturday, the reserves visit Beeston St. Anthony’s in their final league game of the season (Kick off 2.30 p.m.), while on Tuesday (May 7th) they take on Boroughbridge at Station View in the final of the Harrogate & District F.A. Whitworth Cup (Kick off 7.30 p.m.).
