Knaresborough Town played some of their best passing game of the season but failed where it counts in front of goal as they succumbed to the only strike of their home match with Eccleshill United on Tuesday evening.
Antony Brown fired wide for the visitors early on before a weak Rob Worrall effort was easily saved by Dominic Smith in the Eccleshill goal.
Smith was then called into action as he saved from Luke Stewart and saw away Brad Walker’s follow up.
Walker then broke through on to Adam Baker’s pass only to hit wide of the target before having a further shot blocked and also seeing Baker’s effort cleared away.
A late Worrall strike flew over the top as the half ended goal-less.
Walker was just wide afterwards, but chances were rare and when Brown nudged a shot just inside the post, as he was allowed too much time with a loose ball in the area, the writing was on the wall with only twenty minutes to play.
Baker’s shot was deflected narrowly wide and a late Steve Bromley chance was blocked after Will Lenehan headed down a late cross from the right as Knaresborough lost for the seventh time in sixteen home league games this campaign.
On Saturday, the first team is again at home to Hemsworth Miners’ Welfare (3.00 p.m. kick off), while the reserves travel to Huddersfield Amateur in the West Yorkshire League (Kick off 2.30 p.m.).
Next Tuesday (April 9th) the first team are at home to Maltby Main (Kick off 7.45 p.m.).
