Let’s Build It Together: Knaresborough Town FC Launches Community Campaign to Create a 3G Pitch for All
Knaresborough Town Football Club has launched a bold and exciting community campaign to raise funds for the installation of a state-of-the-art 3G artificial pitch at The Hummel Stadium, Manse Lane and we’re inviting everyone in the community to be part of it.
This isn’t just about football. It’s about creating a safe, modern, and accessible hub for the whole community from young children taking their first kick of the ball, to older adults staying active through walking football, and from women’s teams breaking new ground to local groups using sport to support mental wellbeing and social connection.
A pitch with purpose. A place for everyone.
With a weatherproof surface built to FA and FIFA standards, the new 3G pitch will enable:
-
Year-round sport for boys, girls, and inclusive teams
-
A new era of women’s and girls’ football in Knaresborough
-
Safe, structured activity for groups like Rainbow Care Dementia
-
Community fitness, walking football & health programmes
-
A welcoming space for schools, families, and local charities
-
A true community hub that brings people together, regardless of age or background
Paul Howard, Club Chairman, said: "This project is about so much more than sport. We’re building a space where our whole town can connect, thrive, and feel proud. It’s about creating opportunity and social value, and giving the next generation a place to belong.”
Why Now?
The club's current grass pitch is regularly unplayable due to flooding causing cancelled games, disrupted training, and lost opportunities. But now, thanks to the support of local MP Tom Gordon and the Football Foundation, the wheels are in motion.
Tom Gordon, MP for Harrogate & Knaresborough, said: "Knaresborough Town FC plays a vital role in our community – not just in sport, but through their support for causes like Henshaw’s and Rainbow Care Dementia. With ministerial and Foundation backing now in place, the final step is funding. Let’s finish the job together.”
