Knaresborough Town went out of the West Riding County F.A. County Cup on Tuesday evening after a 2-0 defeat at Thackley.
Knaresborough outplayed their hosts during most of the first half, but again struggled to find the net and were made to pay for their missed chances.
Brad Walker put a Rob Youhill cross wide and then Luke Harrop forced Thackley keeper, Luke Wilson, to save with his legs.
Wilson tipped another Walker effort over the bar before Harrop broke clear, only to have two shots saved by the keeper and then watched as Jack Carr’s follow up came back off a post.
Dom Smith was then called into action for the first time as he saved from Ben Grech-Brooksbank.
Walker opened the second period with another shot saved from Carr’s pass before Simon Poole fired over for Thackley.
A curling Ben Parkes effort was tipped wide by Wilson and Parkes also saw a long-range shot fly just wide.
The danger signals were there when Charlie Flaherty shot narrowly wide and after a corner was only partially cleared, Ray Sibanda fired home from the edge of the area to open the scoring in the 66th minute.
Paul Whiteley broke clear on the right to double the total eight minutes later and the nearest Knaresborough came to a fightback was when Will Lenehan’s fine effort from 30 yards came back off the post.
