Knaresborough Town held league leaders, Bridlington Town, to a goal-less draw on Saturday at Manse Lane. The match was close throughout and the result probably the right one.
Will Lenehan headed wide early on for Knaresborough and then Ben Parkes had a shot saved after Adam Baker’s pass.
Brad Walker was next to test James Hitchcock in the visitors’ goal before Sam Lee was called into action as he saved at point blank range to keep out Andrew Norfolk’s shot.
Luke Harrops’s cross cum shot was saved by Hitchcock before Bridlington finished the half on top with Lewis Taylor at the centre of events. Firstly, he smashed a shot against the post before Dan Thirkell blocked his follow up and then he volleyed over before receiving a ten-minute sin-bin for arguing with the referee.
Gregg Anderson saw his header from Baker’s corner saved by Hitchcock before a strong run from Brid’s Joe McFadyen ended with his low shot being pushed away by Lee.
Parkes had a curling effort tipped over the top but Bridlington hit back and Josh Greening headed a right wing centre against the upright.
A minute later, Greening brought another save from Lee and the visitors thought they had clinched the points in added time only for Nathan Walker’s effort to be ruled out for handled ball.
A long range shot from Taylor was easily dealt with as the sides had to settle for a share of the spoils.
